The AA83 utilizes NAT's unique ANF™ system of Active Noise Filtering through audio processing and selective bandwidth to produce clean crisp intercom audio under difficult and noisy conditions. The results are better on-board communications and greatly reduced pilot noise fatigue. In addition, individual mic gating is utilized for the best possible VOX performance. The intercom is combined with a wide band stereo music processor and RX audio functions to provide an integrated communication system. The ICS Tie line may be interrupted between the flight crew and a rear intercom to provide flight crew privacy. A front panel amber VOX squelch light is included to aid in setting the dual VOX squelch controls, and also lights green to indicate TX signal operation. Music is automatically muted during both Intercom operation and RX signal reception.

Front panel controls permit adjustment of pilot/co-pilot VOX Threshold, Music Level and Intercom Level. Internal adjustments set RX Level, RX Balance, ICS Balance, ICS Bass, Music Bass, Music Balance, and Music Mute level. The unique balance control arrangement permits sources to appear in space related stereo, where radios may appear to come from the right, intercom from the left, etc. to aid in recognition or to suit user preferences. Headset outputs and microphone inputs are designed for standard aircraft headsets (150-600 ohm).

The AA83 is built to the same quality standards, and with the same premium components found in the AA80 and AA82 families. Surface mount technology is used to keep the size compatible with previous NAT systems for simple retrofits. The AA83 features a new adjustable music muting function (set at installation) that allows a full range of music muting levels. A unique NAT circuit also provides fast attack & slow music return for truly extraordinary audio performance.
